Future museum pops up in the present
The Museum of Future Objects (MoFO) has announced an innovative initiative today. The new Museum has launched an educational project called MoFO Pop Ups to tour its collection around the country while a permanent home is being build in Philadelphia. The public doesn't have to wait long as the first MoFO Pop UP will take place at the 2013 Museums and the Web Conference in Portland April 18-20.
The Museum of Future Objects is developing a new paradigm for museum collection and exhibition. It divides its collection into two distinct but interconnected areas: Past∞Present and Present∞Future. The Past∞Present collection reflects the multi-faceted and idiosyncratic interests of its owner Dr Sumus Deridet. The Present∞Future collection reflects the ground-breaking research in experimental physics Dr Deridet has dedicated his life to. MoFO has an innovative approach to its Present∞Future collection, in part due to the nature of the collection but also because of a novel partnership with the Institute for Future Objects (InFO). MoFO is forging new pathways from laboratory research to public exhibition.
Director of MoFO, Rufus Sodgrass defines the relationship between the goals for InFO and MoFO as “an innovative new channel of communication between research and exhibition. InFO is the research hub and MoFo is the public platform for showcasing the extraordinary outcomes of this interdisciplinary collaboration.”
MoFO's motto Futurity in Perpetuity is indeed becoming a reality. Its "Discover it! Exhibit it!" attitude is the driving force behind the MoFO Pop Ups Project. "What audiences will get a taste of is the future now" Sodgrass states. "We have access to some of the most brilliant minds in experimental physics who have been able to create traversable wormholes in tightly controlled environments. Our mission at MoFO is to share these outcomes with the public sooner rather than later."
MoFO PoP Ups intends to demonstrate a remarkable scientific and technological advance. The audience in Portland will see the first ever public exhibition of a FLOTL - a Future Light Object Time Loop. What and How are closely held secrets before the event. Be on the look out for a MoFO Pop Up Portland!
